16 September 2021 – Norwegian shipowner Buksér og Berging has chosen the PG-Tornado for the BB Orca de-lousing vessel that is currently undergoing conversion.

Vestfold-based PG Flow Solutions will supply two of its PG-Tornado fish pumps to be utilized on board the vessel. In addition, the company will deliver a non-mechanical PG-HydroFlow pump system for transfer of fish. A control system and a hydraulic drive unit to operate the fish pumps are also part of the delivery.

“It has not been long since we first introduced PG-Tornado to the market, and so far the response has been overwhelmingly positive. Our experience is that the aquaculture industry is increasingly seeking the most optimal solutions for fish welfare and gentle transfer of fish. This is exactly what PG-Tornado and PG-HydroFlow do,” says Øyvind Berg, vice president sales & marketing at PG Flow Solutions.

PG-Tornado has no moving parts that can injure the fish, and a lifting height that by a good margin is suitable for de-lousing vessels, wellboats and processing plants. PG-Tornado is developed and manufactured in a cooperation between PG Flow Solutions and Smartline AS from Stokmarknes, Norway.

The PG-HydroFlow and PG-Tornado pump systems will be installed on-deck and hooked up to a 16-line de-lousing system, which is being delivered by SkaMik.

The pump systems will be assembled and tested at PG Flow Solutions’ fabrication and test site at Sande in Vestfold, Norway. PG Flow Solutions has not disclosed the value of the contract.

“It is really interesting to witness that an increasing amount of platform supply vessels are being converted to other purposes. This is a responsible approach from both a circular economy and sustainability perspective. The fact that our pump technology can also help to make it a profitable investment is something we are proud of. Gentle fish handling is financially favourable for both shipowner and fish farmer, says Steve Paulsen, managing director at PG Flow Solutions.

Buksér og Berging is converting the former Olympic Elena PSV to a de-lousing vessel named BB Orca. The vessel is 70 metres long and is planned to be completed in this year’s fourth quarter.

PG Flow Solutions provides proprietary solutions, systems and products for companies within aquaculture, maritime industries, energy sectors and land-based process industries. The company’s headquarter and manufacturing facility is located in Sande, Vestfold, Norway.
